Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought “why am I wearing a dark mask and it’s not even Halloween?” It’s because you’re are not exfoliating that dead skin away! For those of you who think that exfoliating is SO not necessary and is just another way beauty companies try to rid you of your cash, the skin therapist in me can assure you that using facial scrubs is and always will be a necessary step in your at-home skin care regimen – I’ve seen the results many times over first-hand.
Like Hellobeautif ul On Facebook To Keep Up With Health & Fitness!

Facial scrubs are beneficial to you for many reasons: they remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, they help to unclog pores, they stimulate blood flow which is more prevalent in mechanical exfoliation (the physical rubbing of dead skin off also known as gommage), they promote the growth of new skin cells (cell turnover) & they make your skin look brighter and feel smoother.
Get The Glow: Exfoliate To Rejuvenate Using Ambi!
Women with dry skin should loo…………… continues on Vibe

There’s no shortage of beauty and skincare products that claim to prevent wrinkles, sun damage, fine lines, or crow’s feet. But it can be difficult to sift through all the information and separate fact from fiction. When it comes to beauty and skincare, what are the products you need (not want)? To find the answer, we enlisted the help of Dr. Gerald Imber, world-renowned plastic surgeon and author of The Youth Corridor and asked him to share his top three products for younger-looking skin. Here are the three beauty buys that should be in everyone’s medicine cabinet:

1. Vitamin C antioxidant serum. Vitamin C is critical for reversing sun damage, erasing wrinkles, building collagen, and evening out skin tones. “Vitamin C is acknowledged as the best of the topical antioxidants,” Dr. Imber says. “Studies show that the combination of vitamin C, E, and melatonin is far more effective than any other combination. Knowing this, I have formulated Youth Corridor Antioxidant Boost 2.0 for my patients. Patients have seen clearer, younger skin in weeks—I am devoted to the combination.”

2. Moisturizer with sunscreen. There’s no excuse for not applying sunscreen. Period. The key is an elegant moisturizer sunblock combination that feels good to use, according to Dr. Imber. Look…………… continues on Shape Magazine

Beauty School: The Only Travel Tips You’ll Ever Need
News from Styleite:

I’m going away for Memorial Day (yay long weekend!). I’m flying and bringing a small carry-on bag, and I’m not sure what products to bring. What are your travel essentials?

Whenever you’re traveling, the makeup that you wear and take with you will depend on where you’re going and for how long, as well as the duration of the flight and what you’ll be doing when you land.

Long flights are incredibly dehydrating, with the inactivity slowing down circulation and the dry atmosphere leaving skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. You may want to sleep, so keep makeup to a minimum, apply moisturizer and lip balm, and drink plenty of water. Even short flights take their toll on the skin, while early starts and hanging around airports can leave you looking as tired as you feel. That said, there are a few simple tips I can share:

Put your skincare products and sunscreens into travel sized containers.

Instead of taking a separate moisturizer and foundation, try a tinted moisturizer containing SPF with a concealer to cover any imperfections.

Take blotting tissues instead of powder to remove excess oil from your face.<…………… continues on Styleite

Thursday May 17 2012

Gabrielle Union doesn’t “mess around” when it comes to her skincare.

The actress is an avid user of sunscreen – especially when she’s partaking in outdoor exercise. Gabrielle doesn’t care for sun worshipping, and prefers to cover up under the harsh rays.

“I don’t tan on purpose, but I do a lot of beach workouts. But I go SPF 110,” she laughed to People. “I don’t mess around.”

Gabrielle has been a brand spokeswoman for Neutrogena since 2004 and is currently promoting their new Choose Skin Health campaign, which aims to fight skin cancer. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and the 39-year-old star doesn’t want to become a statistic.

“As an African-American woman, culturally we have been told that we have natural protection against the sun – but we’re absolutely part of the one in five,” she explained. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve seen relatives’ moles change shape, and they think, ‘That’s cute – it’s like Janet Jackson!’ But it’s not cute – it’s called melanoma.”

Gabrielle says her daily skincare regime is “painfully simple”. The stunning star prefers to sport a natural beauty look in the day.

“I use a grapefruit cleanser because it smells good and it’s got salicylic acid. If I’m having a breakout I’ll use something that’s acne specific, but usually i…………… continues on Belfast Telegraph

Olympic viewers are bound to be inspired as they watch the world’s best swimmers vie for gold at the upcoming Summer Games in London.

But while Canada’s medal hopefuls spend countless hours training and competing in chlorinated waters, recreational swimmers sometimes shun the pool for a very superficial reason: dry hair.

Elite swimmers can relate to the problem.

GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK)’s combination of two experimental melanoma medicines slowed cancer progression with few skin complications in an early clinical trial, a result that suggests the combo may have fewer side effects than existing single-drug treatments.

Patients taking Glaxo’s dabrafenib and trametinib together had a lower incidence of rash and skin lesions than previously reported with Roche’s Zelboraf, according to a study of 77 patients with advanced melanoma, the most-severe form of skin cancer. The study, funded by London-based Glaxo, was released today ahead of the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting that starts June 1 in Chicago.

“Not only are the two drugs causing shrinkage of the cancer, but we’re seeing that a second anti-cancer therapy may actually suppress the side effects of the first,” said Jeffrey Weber, an oncologist at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, in a statement. “So far it is looking good.”

If the Glaxo combination succeeds in final-stage trials, it would compete with Zelboraf, a targeted therapy cleared for sale in the U.S. in August. Both Zelboraf and Glaxo’s dabrafenib work by blocking BRAF, a mutant gene that spurs cancer cell growth in about half of melanoma patients. Glaxo’s trametinib is designed to thwart a related protein called MEK, which helps tumors resist an assau…………… continues on BusinessWeek

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – Plainview, NY, May 2012 – May is Melanoma Awareness Month and according to dermatopathologist Dr. George Hollenberg, raising awareness of the dangers of melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, is more important than ever. “The medical community has been actively promoting preventive measures for years, especially limiting sun exposure,” says Dr, Hollenberg, medical director of Acupath Laboratories, “yet the incidence of deadly melanomas continues to rise and, even more troubling, the greatest increase appears to be in young people, particularly young women.” A recent study, published in the April 2012 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, showed that between 1970 and 2009, the incidence of melanoma increased eightfold among young women ages 18-39 and fourfold among young men in Olmsted County, Minnesota.

“We can’t say with certainty what is responsible for the rise in cases of melanoma,” says Dr. Hollenberg, “but there is good reason to think that the increased risk for young women stems from the use of indoor tanning beds. Of the many risk factors for developing melanoma, the one that is easiest to control is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. What makes tanning beds so dangerous is that they emit 10-15 times more UV radiation than the midday sun.” Some states and local jurisdictions have implemented regulations aimed…………… continues on HealthNewsDigest.com
